In short
Abate Zanetti, in Calle Briati on the island of Murano in Venice, is a state-recognised private technical school of graphics and communication with an extended programme in the art of glass. It descends from the Scuola del Vetro Abate Zanetti and, before that, from the Scuola di Disegno per Vetrai founded in 1862 by the abbot Vincenzo Zanetti to give glassmakers an artistic training. Besides its secondary-school curriculum, it runs glass courses open to the public: lampworking, from simple forms to beads, fusing, traditional Murano-style glassblowing and pâte de verre casting, as well as personalised courses at basic, intermediate or advanced level. It is also recognised as a training body for higher technical education courses.
