The Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia is a fine arts academy whose history, according to its website, begins in 1750, with Giambattista Tiepolo as its first president. Since 2004 its main seat has been the former Ospedale degli Incurabili on the Zattere, with further spaces on the Giudecca. It offers first- and second-level academic diplomas in painting, sculpture, decoration, art graphics, scenography and new technologies of art; the second-level course in scenography includes a costume programme that trains costume designers for theatre, opera, dance, cinema and television through workshops and partnerships such as La Fenice and the Biennale.
