The Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milan trains people for the professions of live performance, from dance and music to stage crafts and management; its history begins with the ballet school of La Scala in 1813. In its stage department, a three-year degree in costume for the performing arts teaches students to design, make and manage costumes for theatre, film, television, fashion and advertising, with technical drawing, digital modelling and costume-making techniques. The department also runs courses for wigmakers, hair and make-up artists and set painters, and workshops in tutu making, draping and garment-making techniques.
