In short
The Manufacture nationale de Beauvais is one of the state tapestry workshops of the Manufactures nationales – Sèvres & Mobilier national, where tapestries are woven on horizontal low-warp looms. Created under Louis XIV, it was destroyed in the fire of Beauvais in 1940 and took refuge at the Gobelins site in Paris; in 1989 ten looms returned to Beauvais, to former slaughterhouses that had been renovated, while twelve looms are still in Paris. The weavers work there by traditional methods, and the École des Arts textiles of the Manufactures nationales trains apprentice weavers within the Gobelins, Beauvais and Savonnerie manufactures.
