In short

The British Horological Institute was founded in 1858 in Clerkenwell, London, and is based today at Upton Hall, near Newark in Nottinghamshire, which also houses the Museum of Timekeeping. It trains clock and watch makers and repairers through distance learning courses and on-site courses, from taster days to multi-day courses on watch servicing, chronograph movements, escapements and component making. Its qualifications include a Technician Grade (Level 3) and further advanced study, which the BHI presents as the first step towards its MBHI membership grade.
