In short

The Boat Building Academy and Furniture School in Lyme Regis, on the Dorset coast, was founded in 1997 by the naval commander Tim Gedge and teaches boat building and woodworking by the sea. Its flagship 40-week boat building course incorporates the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Boatbuilding (Advanced) and gives practical instruction in traditional and modern techniques. It also runs a 12-week furniture making course covering woodwork, joinery, drawing, bending and a personal design-and-make project, and short courses of one to ten days, from GRP repairs to antique furniture restoration, open to beginners.
