In short
The Centro de Textiles Tradicionales del Cusco is a non-profit organisation founded in 1996 by Quechua weavers from Chinchero, led by Nilda Callañaupa, and their supporters, to keep Cusco's textile traditions alive. It works with ten weaving communities in the Cusco region, where elder weavers pass on recovered designs, techniques and natural dyeing to younger generations; every Saturday children and young people learn from their elders in the community weaving centres. Its education department runs programmes and publications, and visitors can take backstrap weaving and hand-spinning workshops taught by master weavers. The main store and a free museum are on Avenida El Sol in Cusco, and the first textile centre is in Chinchero.
