The Faculty of Fine Arts of Chiang Mai University was founded in 1982 in Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand. It is organised into departments of Thai Art, Visual Arts and Media Arts and Design, with bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes in fields such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, performing arts, photography and design. Its Program in Design takes the culture and handicraft traditions of Chiang Mai and northern Thailand as a base and trains students in wood, fabric, metal and ceramics, working with artists, designers and local craftsmen. The Program in Thai Art covers the traditional and contemporary arts of Thailand, Lanna and the ASEAN region.
