In short
The Civica Scuola di Liuteria is the violin-making school of the City of Milan, founded in 1978, when the city's music school set up a course in rebuilding and restoring early instruments; since 1987 it has been based in Via Noto. Its three-year professional courses teach the making of bowed instruments (violin, viola, cello), drawing on the Lombard and twentieth-century Milanese tradition, and of plucked instruments, together with acoustics, chemistry, technical drawing and photographic documentation; they lead to a regional certificate as a violin maker. The school also runs amateur courses, seminars and internships, and has a museum and library.
