In short
Les Compagnons du Devoir et du Tour de France is a French workers' association, founded in 1941 by Jean Bernard and recognised as being of public interest, that trains people in trades through apprenticeship. From the age of 15, young people follow work-study training on the Tour de France route through the association's houses and training centres in France and abroad, while adults aged 25 and over can take continuing education courses. The trades taught include cabinetmaking, joinery, leatherwork, shoemaking and bootmaking, saddlery and upholstery, and cooperage, alongside building, industrial and food trades.
