In short

Cranbrook Academy of Art is a school devoted exclusively to graduate education in art, architecture, craft and design, in Bloomfield Hills, about twenty miles from Detroit. It is part of the Cranbrook Educational Community founded by George Gough Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth, whose campus was designed by Eliel Saarinen, the Academy's first president. It offers ten studio programmes leading to the MFA or MArch, each led by a resident artist, designer or architect, including Ceramics, Fiber, Metalsmithing and Industrial Design, where students work on furniture and utilitarian objects. Study is self-directed and based in the studio rather than the lecture hall.
