In short
The École d'Avignon is a non-profit association created in October 1983 on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region and representatives of the building crafts; since 1986 it has been housed in the Hôtel du Roi René, 6 rue Grivolas, in Avignon. It trains craftspeople in the rehabilitation of historic buildings through short courses on stone, lime and traditional masonry, joinery and carpentry, decoration and historic gardens, as well as on-site training. Its certified courses include «Peintre en décor du patrimoine», an 840-hour programme for selected professionals covering historic styles, traditional paints and plasters, and painted and lime-based decoration.
