The École supérieure d'art et design de Saint-Étienne teaches art and design from a preparatory class to postgraduate research and prepares for the national DNA and DNSEP diplomas; together with the Cité du design it forms a public cultural cooperation body. Its DNSEP design programme with the Objet specialisation trains designers of objects for domestic, public and professional spaces, with attention to how they are made and produced, and the fifth year can be taken as a work-study year. Students use technical workshops for wood, metal and ceramics, including joinery, cabinetmaking, forging, casting and pottery, as well as print and digital workshops.
