In short
Escola Massana is the municipal centre of art and design of the city of Barcelona; it began teaching on 14 January 1929 thanks to the bequest of the Barcelona philanthropist Agustí Massana. It teaches the Degree in Arts and Design of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and higher vocational cycles that include artistic jewellery, textile art, industrial model making, printed graphics, illustration, sculptural techniques and applied mural arts, as well as an artistic baccalaureate, postgraduate courses and open courses for everyone. Learning by making in the school's workshops is central to its teaching, and since the 2017–2018 academic year the school has been housed in a new building by the architect Carme Pinós on Plaça de la Gardunya, in the Raval district.
