The Escola Superior de Desenho Industrial (Esdi) is a unit of the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ), located in Lapa, Rio de Janeiro, offering undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees in design, and since 2016 a degree in architecture and urbanism in Petrópolis. The school states that its design course was conceived at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s on the model of the Ulm School of Design (HfG Ulm). The undergraduate course follows an annual system, full-time in the first two years, and the school has a materials workshop, a print workshop and photography and computer laboratories.
