In short
Scuola del Cuoio is a leather workshop and school in Florence, set in the former Franciscan novitiate of the Santa Croce monastery. It was born in 1950, when Marcello Gori and his brother-in-law Silvano Casini began teaching war orphans to work leather, and it is still run by the Gori family. Today it offers long-term professional courses in bag pattern making and construction, held by its master artisans in the classrooms of Schola Academy in Florence, and short workshops from half a day to five days in which participants make items such as a journal cover, a hand-stitched belt or a shoulder bag.
