In short
Folkwang University of the Arts teaches music, theatre, dance, design and academic studies; its Faculty of Design is based in Essen, on the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Zollverein colliery. The Industrial Design group offers a BA in Product Design and an MA in Design Futures, which train product designers in conceptual, strategic and interdisciplinary work, with a particular focus on resource-saving and circular design. The faculty also teaches intermedia design and photography, and traces its roots to Essen's school of trades and applied arts of the early twentieth century.
