In short
Gem-A, the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, is a UK education charity that teaches gemmology and diamond grading from its London premises at 21 Ely Place, online and through accredited teaching centres in other countries. Its courses run from the short online GemIntro to the Gemmology Foundation and Gemmology Diploma, and to the Diamond Grading short course and the Diamond Diploma. According to its history page, gemmology qualifications for UK jewellers began in 1908 within the National Association of Goldsmiths, and the Gemmological Association became a distinct body in 1931. It also publishes The Journal of Gemmology and runs a membership network.
