In short

The Gemmological Institute of India (GII) was established in Mumbai in 1971 under the aegis of the Gem & Jewellery Exporters' Association. Alongside its gem-testing and diamond-grading laboratory, it teaches a Diploma in Gemmology (D.G.), a Diploma in Diamond Grading (D.D.) and short-term courses, with hands-on training on real gemstones and diamonds, in the classroom or by correspondence. Its education centres are near Charni Road station in south Mumbai, and it also has a branch in Pune.
