The Gerrit Rietveld Academie is a small, independent and internationally oriented university of applied sciences for fine art and design at Frederik Roeskestraat 96 in Amsterdam. Its four-year bachelor's programme starts with a general Basicyear, after which students choose one of twelve departments, among them Ceramics, Fashion, Jewellery – Linking Bodies, The Large Glass, Textile (TXT), designLAB, Architectural Design and Graphic Design; graduates receive a BA in Art and Design. The academy also runs a five-year part-time bachelor and preparatory courses; English is the language of communication.
