In short
Gifu Prefectural Woodworking Art School in Takumigaoka, Takayama, is a public vocational training facility set up and run by Gifu Prefecture under the Vocational Ability Development Promotion Act, and part of the Gifu Prefectural International Takumi Academy. In a one-year course for school leavers and people changing or returning to work, trainees learn hand work with planes and chisels, machine work, materials and product design in order to make furniture, with job-placement support from the whole school. The prefecture notes that Hida-Takayama is one of Japan's six major furniture-producing areas.
