In short
Harbin University is a full-time public university run by the Harbin municipal government, formed in 2000 by the merger of four institutions, with roots going back to 1934. Its College of Art and Design, founded in 2004, offers eight undergraduate programmes, including arts and crafts, taught since 1991, and clothing and costume design, taught since 1985, which focuses on fashion illustration, garment construction and ethnic brand design. Teachers in the arts and crafts programme include a provincial master of ceramic arts and crafts, and the programme has led a project on fish-skin and birch-bark art of the Heilongjiang basin.
