In short
Handarbetets Vänner is a centre for advanced textiles, art and design on Djurgården in Stockholm, founded in 1874 by Sophie Adlersparre to develop Swedish textile craft; alongside its school it runs a textile studio and a gallery. HV Skola, which has received state funding for teaching since 1915, offers post-secondary full-time programmes under the Swedish National Agency for Higher Vocational Education, with weaving and art embroidery as the main practical subjects: one-year foundation years in sewing and in weaving and art embroidery, and a two-year advanced textile craft programme. It also runs a wide range of short courses in textile craft.
