In short
The Icelandic Handicraft Association, founded in 1913 in Reykjavík to preserve and promote Icelandic folk art and handicrafts, has run its own school since 1979. The school states that it offers around 80 short courses a year, from sewing the Icelandic national costume to weaving, spinning, embroidery techniques and wood carving; current courses include tapestry and apron weaving, gold embroidery, Icelandic filigree and costume sewing, some of them held in Akureyri. The association is based at Nethylur 2e, where it also has a shop for costume materials and weaving supplies, and publishes the magazine Hugur og Hönd.
