In short
The Design School of Heriot-Watt University is based on the Scottish Borders campus in Galashiels, in a textile-producing area, and also operates in Dubai. It opened in 1883 with classes in weaving, dyeing and chemistry, became the Scottish Woollen Technical College in 1922 and the Scottish College of Textiles in 1968, and merged with Heriot-Watt University in 1997. It teaches design, fashion and textiles, as well as communication and design programmes, with specialist facilities and production equipment for textiles and fashion.
