In short
The Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach is an art university of the state of Hesse whose tradition goes back to 1832, when it was founded as a craftsmen's school; it later became a school of arts and crafts and has held university rank since 1970. It offers bachelor's and master's programmes in two departments, art and design; the design department teaches areas such as industrial design, integrated design and material design, with workshops for metal, plastics, wood and clay model making. Since the state of Hesse acquired the Höchster Porzellan Manufaktur, founded in 1746, the school runs it in Frankfurt-Höchst as a teaching and research site for material design and ceramic art, with an international porcelain residency programme.
