In short

The Bundeslehranstalt Karlstein, at Raabser Straße 23 in Karlstein an der Thaya in the Waldviertel, goes back to the Imperial and Royal School for the Watch and Clockmaking Industry founded there in 1873. It runs the federal vocational school for watchmaker apprentices from all over Austria and a four-year Fachschule for precision and timekeeping technology, where students make and replace watch parts, build a pendulum clock and restore old clocks, watches and cases, alongside a Fachschule and an HTL in mechatronics. A boarding house is attached.
