In short
The Indian Diamond Institute (IDI) was established in Surat in 1978; it is sponsored by India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry and is a project of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC). A not-for-profit organisation registered as a society and a trust, it offers educational and training programmes in diamonds, jewellery and gemmology at its two Surat campuses, Katargam and Vesu. It also runs a gemmological laboratory that issues diamond, jewellery and gemstone reports.
