In short
The International Violin Making School of Cremona is part of the state upper secondary school IIS «Antonio Stradivari» and has been training violin makers since 1938. Its five-year course leads to the Italian state diploma with a violin-making specialisation; students build violins, violas, cellos and double basses from scratch, also learn plucked instruments such as guitars, mandolins and lutes, and study maintenance and restoration, along with music theory, acoustics and art history. Workshops take 10 to 12 students, the fifth year ends with an internship in a professional violin maker's workshop, and the school admits both teenagers and adults, Italian and foreign, in a historic building in Via Colletta in Cremona.
