GEM is the Valenza branch of the ITS Academy Sistema Moda TAM – GEM, a higher technical institute that teaches its textile and fashion courses in Biella and its jewellery courses in Valenza, in the province of Alessandria. The Valenza courses are held in the historic San Domenico complex, with a gem-cutting laboratory and workshops in Viale Dante, and cover fine jewellery, goldsmithing, gemmology and precious-stone cutting, and jewellery concept and retail. They are two-year post-diploma courses of 1,800 hours, including 700 hours of work placement, with subjects such as jewellery CAD and 3D printing, metal casting, wax and metal models, hand fabrication, engraving, stone setting, laser micro-welding and finishing.
