In short
IYRS School of Technology & Trades is a non-profit post-secondary school on the harbourfront in Newport, Rhode Island, founded in 1993 by Elizabeth Meyer as the International Yacht Restoration School to teach the restoration of historically significant wooden sailing yachts. It now offers four full-time, hands-on programmes, among them a 20-month Boatbuilding & Restoration certificate for boatbuilders, marine carpenters and woodworkers, Composites Technology and Marine Systems, each combining classroom teaching, shop training and a multi-week externship. The school also runs short courses such as runabout repair and restoration.
