In short
The Jordan River Foundation is a Jordanian non-profit organisation established in 1995, focused on child safety and community empowerment, which runs handicraft enterprises in which local women work as artisans and which aim to revive traditional rural and Bedouin crafts. In Amman, the Al Karmah Embroidery Center, established in 1996 in Jabal Al Natheef, employs women who make traditional and contemporary hand embroidery for home furnishings, gifts and fashion accessories. The Bani Hamida Weaving Project, launched by Save the Children in 1985 and part of the foundation since 1998, has revived Bedouin weaving in the Makawir area, and the Wadi Al Rayan Project weaves baskets and mats from cattail reeds and banana leaves. The work is sold at the foundation's Jordan River Designs showroom.
