In short
Kanazawa Utatsuyama Kogei Kobo is a crafts institution set up by the city of Kanazawa on 1 November 1989 to preserve and develop the city's crafts, carrying on the spirit of the Kaga clan's Osaikusho workshops; it was renovated and reopened in 2019. It trains craftspeople in five studios: ceramics, lacquer (including Kaga maki-e), dyeing (including Kaga yuzen), metalwork (carving, hammering, Kaga inlay) and glass. Trainees aged 35 or under join for two or three years; there is no training fee, and the city plans a grant for trainees. Daily training and lectures are in Japanese.
