In short
Kawashima Textile School was founded in 1973 by the weaving company Kawashima Orimono (today Kawashima Selkon Textiles) to mark its 130th anniversary, and teaches dyeing and weaving, centred on hand-weaving, in the hills of Sakyo ward in northern Kyoto. Its professional course runs up to three years, from intensive basics to individual work, company placements and exchanges with partner schools abroad, covering textiles for interiors, fashion, kimono and textile art. It also offers technical training of three months to a year for experienced weavers, a monthly weaving course and workshops, with small classes, a dyeing room and a dormitory.
