In short
The Kerala State Institute of Design (KSID), at Chandanathope in Kollam, was set up to build a design community in Kerala through partnership between artisans, professional designers and the public; on 1 April 2014 it was merged with the Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE), under the state's Department of Labour and Skills. With support from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, it offers a four-year Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), approved by AICTE and affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, with discipline studios in Textile & Apparel, Communication and Industrial Design. The studio-based curriculum includes craft immersion, and the institute has textile and apparel labs and wood, metal and clay workshops.
