In short
Kinngait Studios are the printmaking studios of the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative in Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut, where the co-operative's member artists make limited-edition prints. The printmaking programme began in the late 1950s, when local artists and carvers developed with James Houston a printing method suited to the community; since 1959 the studios have released a catalogued collection every year. Their techniques include stonecut, stencil, engraving and etching, and lithography, introduced in the early 1970s. Prints, drawings and sculpture by the co-operative's artists are sold to galleries through Dorset Fine Arts in Toronto.
