Kobe Design University, a private university of art and design in Kobe that opened in 1989, created its Department of Product Design and Crafts in a 2024 reorganisation. After a first year sampling every field, students choose one of three courses: product design, fashion and textiles (including knit design and fashion planning), or crafts, with classes in jewellery, glass and vessels. The department trains designers and makers for daily-life products, fashion and craft, and runs projects with industry and local partners.
