The Değirmendere Ali Özbay Vocational School of Kocaeli University was established in 2003 to train practitioners for art technologies; it opened in Hereke in 2005-2006 and has taught on its own campus in Değirmendere, in the Gölcük district of Kocaeli, since 2006-2007. It runs two two-year applied programmes: Jewellery and Jewellery Design, covering computer modelling, melting and casting precious metals, assembly, polishing, stone setting and repair, and Ceramic and Glass Design, aimed at artistic work, decoration and restoration in glass, ceramics and tiles. The school states that it admits 45 jewellery students and 35 ceramics and glass students each year.
