The Kosygin Russian State University in Moscow is a public university for textiles, light industry, design and art, formed from a textile school whose history the site traces to 1901 and a leather-industry institute founded in 1930. Its Institute of Design teaches costume and accessory design and object design, and its Institute of Arts teaches costume and fashion, textile art, decorative and applied arts, jewellery art and decorative metal, and restoration. Students work in sewing and jewellery workshops, hand-weaving and textile-painting studios and restoration laboratories, and the university runs a Museum of Art Textiles and Costume.
