In short
Llotja is a public school of art and design of the Catalan Department of Education, created on 23 January 1775 by the Junta Particular de Comerç de Barcelona as a free school of drawing to train designers for new manufactures, especially printed textiles; its name comes from the Llotja de Mar building, where the first classrooms were. It now offers an artistic baccalaureate and intermediate and higher vocational cycles in art and design, including artistic jewellery, fire enamelling on metal, artistic ceramics, artistic glass, art forging and casting, wood carving, textile printing and dyeing, lace, fashion styling, interior design, industrial model making, bookbinding and printmaking. Since 2010 it has also been one of the campuses of the Escola Superior de Disseny i Arts Plàstiques de Catalunya (ESDAPC), and it has two sites in Barcelona, Sant Gervasi and Sant Andreu.
