In short
Leksands folkhögskola is a folk high school in Leksand, in Dalarna, on a headland where Lake Siljan meets the Dalälven river; it goes back to the artist and craftsman Gustaf Theodor Wallén, who donated his home in 1947, and the first course started in 1953. Its two-year course programmes, applied for one year at a time, include Metal/Silversmithing (jewellery and hollowware: sawing, filing, soldering, raising and finishing) and Ceramics (throwing, coiling and slab-building, plaster moulds, glazes and slips, firing in electric, gas and wood kilns), alongside a preparatory design course. The workshops are open to participants around the clock; the school is run by the foundation Stiftelsen Hantverk & Utbildning.
