The Istituto d'Arte Liceo Artistico «Vincenzo Calò» is a state art high school in Grottaglie (Taranto) whose roots, the school says, go back to 1887, when an evening ceramics school was founded to train local craftsmen. Its design stream in the art of ceramics teaches the design and making of art and everyday objects in ceramics, with modelling, firing, glazing and decoration, prototypes and 3D design software. A second stream in metal design, goldsmithing and coral teaches traditional goldsmith techniques such as casting, stone setting, chasing and wax modelling, and is also offered at the school's site in Taranto.
