In short
The Cité internationale de la tapisserie in Aubusson is a public institution devoted to Aubusson tapestry, whose know-how is recognised by UNESCO; besides its museum and its support for contemporary creation, it describes itself as a training centre. On its premises, rue des Arts, a full qualifying course for lissiers (low-warp tapestry weavers) is run by GRETA Limousin in partnership with the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region and the Creuse chambers of commerce and of crafts. The two-year course leads to the CAP Art du tapis et de la tapisserie de lisse and then the BMA in the same field, covering the whole making of a tapestry, from the cartoon and colour range to warping, weaving and finishing; the site notes that this teaching had not been offered in Aubusson since 1998.
