In short
The state school for musical instrument making in Mittenwald, Bavaria, was founded in 1858 by the Bavarian government under King Maximilian II as a violin-making school and teaching workshop, and has since added further departments. Its full-time vocational school offers a three-year, tuition-free training in violin making, plucked-instrument making, woodwind instrument making and brass instrument making, covering both modern and historical instruments and leading to a vocational school diploma and journeyman's certificate. The vocational school in the same building provides the theory for apprentices trained in workshops, including bow makers, and for music retail.
