In short
The École des Arts textiles of the Mobilier national is one of the two schools of the apprentice training centre (CFA) of the Manufactures nationales – Sèvres & Mobilier national, a French state institution. It offers a complete four-year initial training, through apprenticeship, as a licier (weaver) of tapestries or carpets in the Gobelins, Beauvais and Savonnerie manufactories, and as a rentrayeur, who restores and conserves the tapestries and carpets of the national collections in the restoration workshops. The course leads to two successive national diplomas, a CAP (rentrayeur, or arts of the carpet and low-warp tapestry) followed by the BMA in the arts and techniques of the carpet and tapestry. Training takes place in Paris and in Lodève (Hérault), and graduates may sit the civil-service exam for art technicians or work in private workshops.
