The Milas Vocational School of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University was founded by decision of the Council of Higher Education in April 1995 and began teaching in 1995-1996 with a restoration programme; since 2001 it has been on its own campus in Beçin, Milas. Its Handicrafts Department runs the two-year Jewellery and Jewellery Design programme, taught since 1996-1997 in three branches (design, stone and metal) and covering gemstone identification and cutting and precious-metal jewellery making, and the Traditional Handicrafts programme, which first admitted students in 2013-2014.
