In short
The National Institute of Fashion Technology was established in 1986 in partnership with the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and since the NIFT Act of 2006 it has had statutory and degree-awarding powers. Its four-year undergraduate programmes include the Bachelor of Fashion Technology and Bachelor of Design degrees in fashion design, accessory design, knitwear design, leather design and textile design, alongside postgraduate and doctoral programmes. Through its Craft Cluster Initiative, students work directly with artisan communities across India. Its head office is in Hauz Khas, New Delhi, and the institute states that it has 20 campuses, from Srinagar to Kannur.
