In short
The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, under Taiwan's Ministry of Culture, is based at the Taiwan Craft Culture Park in Caotun, Nantou County, with branches in Yingge and Miaoli and an office in Taipei. It traces its origins to the Nantou County Craft Research Class founded in 1954 by Yen Shui-long, which trained people in bamboo, wood, lathe work, carving, rattan, ceramics and weaving; it took its present form in 2010. Today it runs research laboratories for lacquer, fibre, ceramics, wood and bamboo and metalwork, public craft workshops such as joinery and embroidery, and with universities a five-week summer training camp for young craftspeople.
