The Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST) in Zaria was established in 1964 as the Hides and Skin Demonstration and Training Project, with UNDP and FAO, and has since had several names, including Federal College of Leather Technology and Federal College of Chemical and Leather Technology. Its mandate is to provide courses, training and research in leather and leather products technology and goods production, training technologists and technicians for leather, leather products and quality control.
