In short
Otago Polytechnic in Dunedin teaches design and visual arts through its School of Design and the Dunedin School of Art, which the polytechnic says opened in 1870 as New Zealand's first art school. Programmes include certificates and the Bachelor of Design in fashion and in product design, and New Zealand Diplomas in Arts and Design at levels 5 and 6 in ceramics, taught in a dedicated ceramics studio. The fashion programmes cover design, textiles and garment production with a focus on sustainability, and students work on live projects for real clients.
